We Grow Good Food in Good Soil
For the earth. For our community.
For your family. For generations to come.
It always starts with the soil. Because healthy soil = healthy food = healthy people.
We’ve been working hard to repair the land here at Substrata since 2021. We work with Mother Nature to grow food that nourishes our community and the land we are lucky to live on.
Our work is all about respecting the environment we’re part of.
Here’s How We’re Keeping It Real:
Because you and your family deserve total transparency about your food

What Do Our Growing Conditions Mean For You?
All the good things:
-
More nutritious food (higher nutritional value when eaten soon after harvesting)
-
Fresher food = better look and taste on your plate
-
We choose cultivars that are grown to serve up top-notch flavour and nutrition (not over-extending shelf life)
-
Reduce your personal ecological footprint
-
Directly support your local community

Land Stewardship for Our Community
How does land stewardship change the way we farm?
There are so many buzzwords in farming. Let’s skip the big talk and just promise you EXACTLY what you can expect from our food grown at Substrata Farm:
-
Ecological: Organic, regenerative, sustainable ... whatever you want to call us, we are growing fresh, healthy, natural food in ways that respect the land we live and work on. We work WITH the land.
-
Truly Local: Our food is always grown and sold locally. (No shipping in or out of our community)
-
No Bad Stuff: No pesticides, herbicides, fungicides. Ever. Compost tea-only.
-
Human Powered: Our hands in the dirt. Our boots on the ground. Our team is made up of Niagara-community members who love this magical piece of greenbelt. We care about worker welfare – no one at our farm is exposed to toxic chemicals.
(And another thing about us):
We love local.
We love the arts.
We love making good food.
